Fargo-Moorhead Named Best-Performing Small Metro in the Nation

The Fargo-Moorhead region has earned the top spot on the Milken Institute’s 2010 Best-Performing Cities report.

The report bases its rankings on job, wage and salary growth over a period of time and relative high-tech jobs.  In this year’s report, Fargo ranked as the best-performing small city and increased to the #1 position from #10 from last year.

“The Milken Institute focuses on three areas the F-M region is rich in,” said Chamber of Commerce President Craig Whitney, “Human capital, financial capital and social capital.  We have the people, the economic activity and the education, health care and cultural infrastructure that make this and incredible place to live and do business.”

The best performing small cities in the 2010 report all have either energy-related natural resources, a major university or a military base.  Fargo-Moorhead has six universities, with a total student population in excess of 30,000.

“The Fargo-Moorhead region has all three in spades,” said Whitney.
